72-year-old man dies in Halifax after car hits him on marked crosswalk

DARTMOUTH, N.S. - A 72-year-old man who was struck by a car while walking on a marked crosswalk in Halifax has died.

Halifax Regional Police say they issued a summary offence ticket to a 30-year-old driver for failing to yield to a pedestrian on a crosswalk.

Police say they continue to investigate the case.

Investigators say they responded at about 7:05 a.m. on Monday to a report of a pedestrian struck while crossing the busy, two-lane road.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Victoria Road and Chappell Street in the north end of Dartmouth, across the Harbour from downtown Halifax.

The man was transported to hospital where he died.
