MOORES MILLS, N.B. - A 26-year-old New Brunswick man who was the subject of an emergency alert last week has been arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.

RCMP issued an alert on Wednesday advising residents in rural southwest New Brunswick to stay inside and lock their doors because Kody John Hiltz was believed to be carrying a firearm with dangerous intent.

On Saturday, Hiltz was located at a home in Moores Mills, N.B., and RCMP say he fled on foot but was captured with the help of a police dog team.

Hiltz sustained minor injuries during his arrest and was taken to hospital for treatment before being returned to custody.

The 26-year-old appeared in court Monday and was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a probation order, and resisting arrest.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court Friday morning.
