FREDERICTON - A case of the measles has been confirmed in New Brunswick.

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer is warning about potential exposure to a case of the contagious respiratory disease in the Moncton area in a person who recently travelled internationally.

Public health officials say there was possible measles exposure on Air Canada Flight 1550 from Montreal to Fredericton on July 20, as well as the international airports in both cities.

There was also possible exposure at a hospital in Ste-Anne-de-Kent, N.B., north of Moncton, between late afternoon on July 22 and early the next morning.

Dr. Rita Gad, the regional medical officer of health, says anyone who was in those places on those days should monitor for symptoms.

Early symptoms can include fever, cough, sore and/or red eyes, runny nose and tiny white spots in the mouth, with a rash appearing on the face within three to seven days.
