Montreal Mayor Val茅rie Plante says she's doing better after suddenly falling ill during a news conference on Tuesday, but she says she will reduce her activities in the coming days as a result of the scare.

"This morning, I felt uneasy during a press conference. Fortunately, I'm better. Thank you very much for your kind words and support," Plante wrote on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, adding that she would miss a council meeting that evening.

Video from CTV News showed Plante trailing off in the middle of answering a question in English, before saying she didn't feel well and slowly sinking to the floor.

The mayor was seen seated on the ground surrounded by her staff, who called for medical attention.

On Plante's X account, her office wrote after the incident that she had experienced a "malaise," or discomfort, but was out of danger.

Later, Plante said on X she had met with a medical team and was doing well.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier Fran莽ois Legault were among those who responded to Plante's message on X to wish her a speedy recovery.
