MONTREAL - Quebec's police oversight agency is investigating after a Montreal officer shot a person inside a car that had been allegedly stolen.

The watchdog, known as the Bureau des enqu锚tes ind茅pendantes, says that around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday police came across a stolen car in the Notre-Dame-de-Gr芒ce neighbourhood.

After police asked the driver to pull over, he or she allegedly started driving the car toward the officers.

One Montreal police officer opened fire and hit an occupant of the car.

The injured person was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Six BEI officers are investigating the shooting, while provincial police have opened a criminal probe into the other aspects of the case.
