WINNIPEG - Parts of southern Manitoba are in the midst of a whooping cough outbreak, with more than 150 cases reported since the beginning of this year.

The province says the Southern Health-Sant茅 Sud health region, which is the body responsible for health care in southeastern and south-central Manitoba, has 152 out of the 154 confirmed or probable cases reported to Manitoba Health since January.

The outbreak includes 78 female and 76 male cases, and has resulted in 55 visits to emergency departments and two admissions to pediatric intensive care.

Eighty of the cases have involved children aged one to nine, 30 have been in infants one or under and 44 cases have been in people 10 and older.

The province says no deaths have been reported.

Public health teams in the region are offering evening clinic appointments and additional time-slots to make immunizations more convenient and accessible for families in the area.
