Student Run Businesses Overview

Our micro-stores provide each student with real-world experiences from running a business, to independently manage, market, operate, and staffing these ventures. All proceeds from each Student Run Business goes back to 91ÅÝܽ student scholarships fund to benefit our future Sharks!


Post Campus

Shark Nation Spirit Shop
Located in Hillwood Commons, 1st Floor

Shark Nation, redesigned with the new LIU brand in 2019, is the official spirit store of 91ÅÝܽ. Shark Nation serves as the preferred spirit store for all LIU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The store also hosts “Tradition Tuesday’s” across the University to encourage students to wear their blue and gold!

LIU’s spirit store sells a wide array of 91ÅÝܽ and Sharks apparel including clothes, gifts, and accessories. Purchase anything you need to be a die-hard Sharks fan and show your Shark spirit at every athletic game and all days in between.


The Student Body Collective

The Student Body Collective opened in 2014 as LIU’s first student run business and the first student-run retail operation on Long Island. Offering affordable clothing and accessories for men and women, the store reflects LIU’s commitment to empowering students through real-world experience and features the trends and styles of the latest fashions.

Student-entrepreneurs in the Fashion Merchandising & Management Program are responsible for selecting inventory and managing the store as well as marketing the business to students, faculty, staff, and the LIU community. The Student Body boutique provides real-world experience for business students, funds for scholarships, and start-up capital for future ventures.


Roosevelt School Gift Shop

The Roosevelt School Gift Shop opened in 2023 as part of 91ÅÝܽ's White House Experience, one of only four White House replicas in the nation. It's also the final destination of the Museum of Democracy's "Hail to the Chief! Electing the American President" exhibit on display in the Roosevelt House. The Gift Shop carries all sorts of apparel, memorabilia, and souvenirs commemorating LIU's Roosevelt School and the U.S. Society of Presidential Descendants.

Browse, LIU’s technology store is an authorized technology products retailer that offers popular technology brands and products, from tablets and notebooks to all-in-one desktop computers and gaming consoles, as well as accessories, at discounted rates for LIU faculty, students, and staff with a valid LIU ID.

Students who are hired at Browse as store associates play an important role in the Browse’s day-to-day operations and gain professional skills as they work alongside certified service helpdesk technicians. Students have the opportunity to learn about retail, customer service, business management, entrepreneurship, small business operations, supply chain management, e-commerce, marketing, as well as networking and technology troubleshooting, and other work experiences that help students to build a professional résumé prior to graduation. Students are encouraged to come to Browse for helpdesk support.


Brooklyn Campus

Canteen
Located in Metcalfe Building, 1st Floor
Monday-Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Sundays: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Canteen, located online and on LIU’s Brooklyn campus, is the official store of the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment. The student-run business sells a campus-ready collection of clothing, hats, notebooks, and water bottles in addition to signed memorabilia from entertainment & sports titans. With a storefront on Brooklyn’s bustling Flatbush Avenue, canteen in the only student-run business open to the public.

All proceeds from canteen benefit the Roc Nation Hope Scholars Program, which provides scholarships to 25% of enrolled students at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment. Students working in canteen earn work-study funds to contribute to their education, gain retail and customer service experience, and have an opportunity to model the clothing for the digital platform.
