Academic Departments
Faculty and staff who teach in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree Program are housed in two academic departments: Veterinary Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Departmental faculty also contribute to the research mission of LIU-CVM.
VBS faculty members explore and teach important animal health concepts at multiple levels of biological organization, from molecular to whole animal. The department offers courses in anatomy, anatomical and clinical pathology, bacteriology, epidemiology, food safety, histology, immunology, mycology, parasitology, physiology, pharmacology, public health, toxicology and virology.
VCS faculty members offer courses that prepare veterinary medical students to achieve day 1 professional competence or continue further specialty training. Faculty members offer courses in anesthesiology, animal behavior and welfare, diagnostic imaging, equine medicine, exotic animal medicine, laboratory animal medicine, large animal medicine and surgery, small animal medicine and surgery, veterinary professional skills courses, and clinical training of students during 4th year clerkships in collaboration with the Distributive Veterinary Educators Consortium (DVEC). DVEC faculty hold adjunct appointments.
